Old Town Alexandria Hilton - Alexandria, Virginia

Coast-to-Coast Coordination and Collaboration

Case Study

The hotel owner group, Lodging Capital Partners, hired designer Cole Martinez Curtis & Associates from California and Studio 3877 Architecture located in Washington DC for this extensive and architecturally detailed renovation project at the Old Town Alexandria Hilton in Alexandria, Virginia. Triple Crown Construction managed the project to accommodate long lead times, large flooring area work,  limited space for onsite material management and retail brand specifications.

16 weeks

Start to Finish

Organized communication was imperative to keep the project optimally coordinated with the owner group representative, designer, architect, hotel staff and retail representative in order to meet deadlines.

5,500 sq. ft. Lobby

Triple Crown delivered Partner-Grade performance results on this multi-phased project including a new buffet as part of a restaurant renovation; a meeting room addition; main lobby renovations; and a Starbucks kiosk rough in.

Long lead times for equipment and custom materials.

  • Design-build plans scheduled to accommodate installation of mechanical parts for moving partition in the meeting room.

  • Multiple phases were used to manage preparation and installation of custom millwork and unique stone selection.

5,500 sf main lobby floor wood was glued down and required special equipment to rip it up.

  • Coordinated a window of time in-between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Employed all resources to make significant daily progress as the highest priority.

  • Completed floor removal in less than one week rather than a small portion every few days to minimize disruption since the work was very noisy.

Very limited space for material deliveries, storage and staging.

  • On-site superintendent kept the property staff advised of delivery details and schedules to coordinate logistics.

  • Materials offloaded only during certain hours to minimize traffic disruptions at this busy location.

Specific brand standards for Starbucks kiosk rough in.

  • Collaborated with retailer representative to be sure all standards for their installation of equipment, display and brand details were met.

  • Frequently communicated with representative to provide progress updates so the specialty team could be scheduled for the finish work and meet project deadlines.
