I seek out a special kind of person to join this company—individuals who are willing to put the team above themselves and do their part to make everyone around them better off than they were before, whether that be our customers, our partners, or each other.

The most important thing to me about any job is the people I work with. I think that’s true for most people. Fortunately, Triple Crown Construction is filled with wonderful people that truly feel like an extended family (even the ones that aren’t a part of my actual family!)—we care about each other and want each other to succeed. It’s an encouraging, positive environment that I love taking part in.

Not only do I get to take part in it, but in my job, I handle the recruitment of new employees, so I’m kind of the first test of whether people will fit in here or not. I look for experience, capability, and intelligence, of course, but I also seek out a special kind of person to join this company—individuals who are willing to put the team above themselves and do their part to make everyone around them better off than they were before, whether that be our customers, our partners, or each other.

I enjoy being a resource for new employees after they’ve been hired as well—I might have met them at a job fair or in-person interview, or talked to them on the phone, but that’s not the last time they hear from me! I work hard to make benefits like health insurance, easy to understand for our employees, and I facilitate performance reviews and training programs. I do what I can to create an environment where everyone can have fun and work hard.

Outside of those job tasks, I like to help where I can in planning different company events, or brainstorming ideas for fun employee outings! It’s always an enjoyable challenge to plan new events that will be fun and give us opportunities for team-building.

Spending time with my family and friends is important to me, whether it’s having a game night, getting together for a meal, or just spending time with the people I love, whether it’s at home or as we travel and explore new places. I do think of the folks at Triple Crown Construction as part of my family, and I like taking care of them as well. Sometimes I can do that as part of my job, but the employees here also get to benefit from my baking hobby! Cookies, brownies, monkey bread, or banana bread—I find it incredibly relaxing to take simple ingredients and turn them into something special. I guess that’s how I look at HR as well—make sure we bring in people and take care of them, and the final product will be fantastic.

I started working in Human Resources back in 2013 after some years in accounting and have had experiences in many different fields—healthcare, IT, nonprofit, and construction—but some things are always constant. People want to do good work and they want to do it with people they like. It’s my job

to facilitate both. “The most wasted of all days is one without laughter,” said E.E. Cummings, and I can safely say that we’ve never wasted a day here at Triple Crown.
