This month our Employee Spotlight is shone on a member of the Triple Crown Construction team who has made an incredible impact to the company already, even as he celebrates his second anniversary with us—Rhody Ross!
Recently transitioning from a Project Manager to a Business Development Manager, Rhody has been instrumental in building the most important thing we construct here at Triple Crown—not hotels, not office buildings, but relationships. His more than two decades in the industry has taught him more than the ins and outs of day-to-day activities: it’s given him a perspective about what is behind the business decisions that lead a firm to seek out Triple Crown’s expertise, and therefore an understanding of what that firm’s ownership is seeking to achieve.
“The role is especially enjoyable for me because I feel like I’m able to use all the arrows in my quiver,” said Rhody. “I get to be on the front line of helping the company meet its targets for growth. And as the company grows, I’ll be able to grow alongside it.”

It’s not uncommon in the construction and renovation space for a company to tell a general contractor, “We want X,” and then when the contractor provides them just that, both parties discover that X wasn’t what the company really needed at that time. Rhody’s encyclopedic knowledge of the space and of companies’ challenges and goals allow him to help guide their project from the outset to assure they get the result they really want, even if they’re not sure what they need to ask for to get there.
Rhody is Triple Crown Construction’s Partner-Grade philosophy manifested—he helps client-partners achieve the outcomes their business needs, and it helps that he’s extraordinarily personable in the process; this lets our partners know that it’s real humans working with them who care about their business and aren’t simply trying to push a sale. Rhody, like all good business development managers, is looking to find projects that are a mutually beneficial fit for both parties.

When asked what has helped him succeed so well on behalf of Triple Crown, Rhody cited his fearlessness. “This is a field that has you in conversation with a variety of different people in all sorts of capacities,” he said. “You need to put your fear of rejection and failure aside to get to know them. In order to build the relationships you need, you must understand them and where they’re coming from. It’s only a small percentage of the people you talk to that you’ll end up doing business with—that’s just the reality—so you can’t lose heart because of a few setbacks. No one who ever succeeded did so without their fair share of failures along the way. Keep trying—effort is the fuel of accomplishment.”

Outside of the job, Rhody savors the quiet moments he can find with his wife and four (fully-grown!) children. With his wife as busy as she is, even something as simple as walking the dogs together on a cool evening can be the perfect end to a day. Rhody is an avid football and baseball fan, having played tight end for his college football team (Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Huskies), and can be found on afternoons from April through September rooting for his Phillies—or into October, if it’s been a good season for them!
In his professional role, Rhody must constantly seek out new business while considering his project teams’ expert and operational experience to best match upcoming business opportunities to the team strengths. It’s a position that requires flexibility, people skills, and knowledge that only comes from experience. Not many people can do what Rhody does—we’re happy he’s on our team, and so are our partners!
