The TCC Team says #shakeyourkeys as they root, root, root for the home team
Baseball is the true American pastime. Or maybe it’s an excuse to eat way too many hotdogs and indulge our secret fondness for organ music. No matter the reason for the (baseball) season, the Triple Crown Construction team set off on a Friday evening in July to watch our hometown team, the Frederick Keys, take on the Carolina Mudcats!
It was a perfect summer evening—truly, we couldn’t have asked for any better weather—full of baseball, great company, and capped off with fireworks above the stadium!
The Keys are Frederick’s local minor-league team—they’re the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles—named after Francis Scott Key, the Frederick County poet who is known for writing the “Star-Spangled Banner.”
Minor league baseball games are some of the most fun outings during the summer for both family and friends, so it was a perfect choice for July’s TCC team-building event. And for this one, our families joined in on the fun! The smiles and laughter were abundant; add the perfect weather, thrilling and close games, and a healthy helping of food and beer and you have all the necessary ingredients for a memorable evening at the ballpark.
Did you notice I said games, plural? That’s because we were lucky enough to see not just one, but two games that day! It was a doubleheader against the Mudcats, since weather caused the prior day’s game to be rescheduled. The teams split the day’s games: the first one went to our hometown Keys by a score of 6-4 thanks to a come-from-behind rally after being down by four in the second inning, and the second was a lower-scoring pitching showcase that ended with the Mudcats claiming victory 4-1.
Shaking the Keys
It’s a longstanding tradition to “Shake Your Keys” at a Frederick Keys game, and we did just that! Some of us have a TON of keys on our keyrings, I discovered—maybe that just comes with the territory of working with a construction company!
It was a fun night at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium, and a great chance for the team to spend time together out of the office. Some preferred to stay inside the breezy air-conditioned suite while others wanted a closer view of the action in the stands, but everywhere we went there was fun, friends, food, and maybe a little gossip that kept us laughing well through the incredible sunset view from the stadium.
Of course, the night couldn’t be complete without a visit from our resident coyote, the Keys team mascot “Keyote!” Shortly before the end of the second game, our furry friend made a visit to the suite, much to the children’s (and more than a few of us big kids’) delight! We couldn’t have asked for a better evening with our family and coworkers, rooting the Keys on through the dog days of summer!
