Triple Crown: Two Years in Frederick!

Triple Crown relocated its headquarters to Frederick in Fall 2016, and since community involvement is such a cornerstone of our mission, we wasted no time getting acquainted with the local people and businesses—just scroll down our blog, and you’ll see some examples!

In October of this year, to celebrate our second Frederick anniversary, Triple Crown took part in two more events to strengthen our ties with the community: We held a Pumpkin Carving Event with the local ACE Mentor Program chapter and organized a Pedego bike tour throughout Downtown Frederick as a team-building exercise.

Carve for a Cause

The ACE Mentor Program of America, Inc. (ACE) helps mentor high school students who are interested in pursuing careers in design and construction—annually more than 9,000 students participate in ACE, and since its inception, the organization awarded more than $15 million in scholarships to participants. Triple Crown recently became engaged with the Frederick chapter of ACE, and this year decided to host “Carve for a Cause,” a pumpkin carving event on Oct. 4 to provide more exposure for ACE and to raise money for its local scholarship program. A number of local businesses took part, including Emser Tile, St. John Properties, Georgetown Insurance, ResultsCFO, Illumine8 Marketing & PR, Leadership Techniques, and Woodsboro Bank. The event was further sponsored by MRW Systems and Beth and Dick Pryor.

Carving-eventAt the event, locals carved pumpkins, learned more about the ACE Mentor program, and had their completed carvings graded. There were some remarkable designs!

Completed pumpkins were delivered and displayed in local business storefronts, sharing the seasonal fun with the broader Frederick community. As a result of the event, not only were funds raised for ACE to support the mentoring program, but we built greater awareness around Frederick of ACE and the program, which will help many more young builders start their careers in coming years!

Pedego Bike Ride

In October, Triple Crown also partnered with the local Pedego electronic bike franchise to provide a bike tour through Frederick for its employees. It served as an effective team building exercise, an opportunity to learn more about the area, and quite simply a fun way to spend an afternoon!

We divided up into teams and participated in a scavenger hunt that took us all over Downtown Frederick—more than just taking us there, the hunt incorporated historic and current-day Frederick landmarks, so it was a great way for all of us at Triple Crown to become more connected to our community. And with the electronic bikes provided by Pedego letting us cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time, each team was able to see much of the town throughout the day.

At the end of the day, the winning team was Emily, Fany, Amanda, and Cam!

After the tour, the teams convened at local favorite eatery La Paz for a happy hour and shared stories of where their scavenger hunt around Frederick took them. It was an incredible afternoon of fun and community. Maybe we’ll do it again next year!
